Evolve

Your Guided Journey to a Successful Business Transition

Create your roadmap. Keep relationships strong. Navigate your transition with confidence.

An aligned roadmap requires more than just a template. It involves honest conversations, a clear understanding of your options, and a guide who knows how people decisions connect to structural, financial, and legal considerations. That’s what we help you build. In 30 years, we haven’t left a family without a clear path forward.

FROM OUR FOUNDER

Hear About the Evolve Program

Elizabeth Ledoux has helped hundreds of families through transitions over 30 years — and she’s now navigating her own, passing the business to her successor, Andrea Carpenter. Learn why she started Evolve and how it works.

THE CHALLENGE

The Reality Most Business Owners, Successors, and Families Face

Statistically, six out of ten business transitions fail.

It’s rarely due to poor legal work or flawed financial plans. Instead, transitions fail because the people-side work was never addressed, and without it, even the most solid technical plans won’t succeed.

Maybe the founder isn’t ready to let go. Maybe the successor is prepared but doesn’t feel heard. Maybe the family has been avoiding the conversation for years. These deep-rooted issues don’t just cause emotional damage; they also disrupt deal structures, stall estate plans, and turn costly advisory work into wasted expenses.

That’s why the most successful transitions begin here. Not with the lawyers and CPAs, but with the clarity that ensures their work truly sticks.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF…

You’re the owner.

You’ve built something meaningful and you’re not ready to walk away, but you know you can’t run it forever. You want to transition over time intentionally, preserve what you’ve built, and make sure the people who matter are taken care of.

You're the successor.

You’ve been carrying responsibility without the ownership or authority to match. You’re ready to step into a bigger role, and you want a structured, aligned path to get there, not just a promise that “someday” it’ll happen.

You're a family.

You want to preserve what matters (the relationships, the legacy, the business) while figuring out a transition that feels bigger than any one conversation. You’ve maybe tried to talk about it, and it didn’t go well, you made little progress, or you haven’t tried yet because you’re not sure how.

THE PROCESS

Your 12-Month Journey

We work together to create clarity, build alignment, design and implement your transition

Stage 1

Foundation & Roadmap Creation

We start with interviews both the company and the individuals and our proprietary personality assessment (iMAP) to understand who you are, what you have, and how you work together. Then we walk through the Transition Compass (the Big 6 questions that determine whether your transition succeeds) and build your Options Matrix so you can see your best path forward.  Once you are aligned, we help you complete your Transition Roadmap. Most families complete this in approximately six months.

Stage 2

Implementation & Support

With your roadmap in hand, the real work begins. Your Guide helps you navigate the conversations, decisions, and structural components that bring your plan to life. That might mean designing governance, inviting successors into the process, coordinating with legal or financial advisors, or working through the inevitable surprises that come with any transition. Coaching, peer learning, and accountability keep you moving forward while relationships stay intact.

Stage 3

Continued Partnership (Optional)

After your initial 12 months, some families graduate and move forward independently. Others choose to continue with ongoing support as their transition evolves. Your guide and the Evolve community remain available for as long as you need a trusted partner by your side.

OUR TOOLS

Proprietary Frameworks Built Over 30 Years

Every tool we use is proprietary and designed by our founder, Elizabeth Ledoux, through decades of guiding families through transitions. They’re the same frameworks that have helped hundreds of families get aligned, get clear, and get moving.

The Transition Compass

Walk through the Big 6 questions every transition must answer: WHY, WHAT, WHO, WHEN, HOW MUCH, and HOW. Each question goes deeper than you expect — and the answers become the foundation for everything that follows.

The Objectives Matrix

Each person involved completes their own matrix: what do you want for yourself, your family, your employees, and the business? When you share these with each other, many new perspectives, including alignment — and misalignment — become clearly visible for the first time.

Tax and Legal Integrations

Your Guide helps you explore structural options, tax implications, and estate considerations so you understand the landscape before you engage specialists. When you do bring in legal or financial advisors, you’ll know exactly what you need from them, and they’ll spend less time untangling family dynamics and more time doing their best work.

The iMAP Assessment

Our proprietary personality profile helps you to understand and normalize how each of you ‘operate’ and how you interact. Using a more objective lens allows for greater insights into how each of you desire to communicate, make decisions, and handle conflict — so your transition conversations are productive from day one.

The Transition Roadmap & Timeline

Your living document. Every commitment, milestone, and decision is mapped to a timeline that you, your successor, and your family can reference, update, and hold each other accountable to — long after your engagement with us ends.

Governance Support

For families with multiple stakeholders, governance is often where the real work begins. We help you design decision-making structures, define roles and authority, and create the agreements that let your family and your business operate with clarity. Whether you need a family council, a board framework, or simply a shared set of ground rules, your Guide helps you build governance that fits your business and family.

Investment

This is the strategic work that holds your entire transition together. We help you see the full picture (people, structure, tax, timing, legacy) so every decision you make and every advisor you engage moves you toward the outcome that actually matters to your family.

Most people discover that doing this work first (or alongside their legal and financial advisors) saves them significant time and money. When you know what you want and everyone is aligned, your attorneys and CPAs can do their best work from day one.

Evolve starts at $2,700/mo

That includes everything: your dedicated Transition Guide, monthly coaching sessions, bi-weekly group labs, and our full suite of proprietary tools.

We don’t charge a percentage of your deal. We don’t have hidden fees. It’s a flat monthly rate for your full transition journey

What Business Owners Say

Real families navigating real transitions—here’s what they experienced working with us.

"Of all the Family Business consultants, TTS pulls together the most effective tools and methods that allow the family to effectively consider and plan for all future possibilities."
Brian Burney
Business Owner
"Until we started the work with The Transition Strategists, I only saw the business succession going one way. It wasn't until we did that work that I saw there's more than one possibility for transition. My fears and concerns about transitioning turned into a better understanding of the big picture view."
Dianne Nolin
Managing Partner, Argent Bridge Advisors
"It was satisfying to see the process culminate into a series of tasks with specific dates and expectations. This would not be possible without the leadership and insight from your guide."
Jason Rud
Business Owner

Our Transition

Our founder, Elizabeth, is in the process of transitioning the business to Andrea, our president. We’re not just advising on transitions, we’re living one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your attorney and CPA handle the legal structures, tax strategies, and financial mechanics of your transition. They’re essential. Evolve does something different: we help you and your family get clear on what you actually want, build alignment among everyone involved, and create a roadmap that addresses the people-side issues that cause 60% of transitions to fail.

But we don’t stop at the people side. Your Guide also helps you explore structural options, tax and estate considerations, and financial trade-offs so you can see how all the pieces fit together. Think of us as the strategic quarterback for your transition. We help you see the full picture, weigh what you’ll gain and what you’ll give up, and make sure every advisor you work with is pulling in the same direction.

Perfect. Most of our clients aren’t ready to leave their business… they’re building toward something, not walking away from it. Evolve is designed for business owners who want to create optionality and clarity about what’s next, not force an exit timeline. Whether you’re planning to transition in 2 years, 10 years plus, or you’re still actively growing and want to build a roadmap that gives you choices, this program helps you plan for multiple possibilities while keeping your options open to navigate as life shifts and the business changes.

While you may absolutely start Evolve on your own, we’ve found the process is most powerful when your successor at some point participates with you. Transition planning isn’t just about what the owner wants, it’s about building alignment, clarifying expectations, and making sure everyone is moving in the same direction. When both owner and successor go through the program together, you build a shared roadmap, have the hard conversations in a facilitated environment, and avoid the “announcement vs. collaboration” trap that derails so many transitions. If your successor isn’t ready to participate or you don’t have a successor yet, we can work with you first and bring them in when the timing is right. (Elizabeth had her transition roadmap done for two years until she met Andrea!  Having a roadmap is valuable in helping you find the right person to be your successor and inviting them in.)

Most families create their roadmap in the first six months, then spend the rest of the year implementing it with support. But every family is different, and we’re not going to abandon you because the calendar says 12 months. In 30 years, we’ve never left a family without a clear path forward. Your guide is with you until you have a roadmap forward.

Evolve is 100% virtual, no travel required, no multi-day retreats. We designed it this way so the work fits into your actual schedule, not the other way around. The focus is on bringing the participants together no matter where they are to make sure you keep momentum and don’t get stuck coordinating complex in person events.  You’ll have monthly 1:1 coaching sessions and bi-weekly Group Labs, all conducted virtually. This means you can participate from your office, your home, or wherever works for you, without disrupting your business or personal life. That being said, we love getting together in person, so we do offer in-person retreats for additional fees.

Evolve is designed for transitions involving 1- 3 participants and includes monthly 1:1 coaching sessions. Evolve+ supports families with up to 8 participants or those who want to move at a faster pace. It includes a minimum of two monthly coaching sessions and priority support, starting at $5,400 per month. If your family has more than 8 participants or particularly complex entity structures, let’s talk. We’ll design something that fits.

Yes. Family conflict doesn’t disqualify you—in fact, it’s often a sign that you need this kind of structured, facilitated process. Our job is to create a safe space for those difficult conversations, help everyone feel heard, and guide you toward alignment even when you’re starting from very different places. We’ve worked with families navigating everything from long-standing resentments to power struggles to fundamental disagreements about the future. The key is willingness to engage in the process, not perfect harmony.

Plan for about 4-6 hours per month: one 60-90 minute 1:1 coaching session, two 90-minute Group Labs, check in times with your Guide, plus time for any work you’re doing between sessions (like conversations with family, reviewing documents, or working through your roadmap). This isn’t a program that takes over your life—it’s designed to fit into your schedule while still giving you meaningful progress.

Absolutely. In fact, many of our clients come to us because they’ve already talked to attorneys, CPAs, or financial advisors but can’t move forward with the recommendations they received. Maybe something doesn’t feel right, maybe there’s resistance from family members, or maybe they realize they’re missing critical information about what they actually want. We work alongside your existing advisors to make sure the people-side clarity and the technical work stay connected. When everyone is pulling in the same direction, the whole process moves faster and costs less.

Your $2,700 monthly investment includes: monthly 1:1 coaching sessions with your dedicated coach, bi-weekly Group Labs led by Elizabeth Ledoux and Andrea Carpenter, access to our full suite of proprietary tools (including the Transition Compass, Objectives Matrix, Options Matrix, iMAP Assessment, and Transition Roadmap), ongoing support between sessions, and all the guidance you need to create and implement your roadmap. There are no hidden fees, no percentage-based compensation tied to your deal structure, and no surprise charges. It’s a flat monthly rate for the full 12 months.

We intentionally limit the number of clients we work with so we can give each family the attention and care they deserve. This isn’t a mass-market program—it’s a guided journey with dedicated coaching and small peer groups. When you work with us, you’re not just a number in a system. You have a dedicated coach who knows your story, and you’re part of a small community of business owners navigating similar transitions.

We work with family businesses and closely-held companies across all industries—from manufacturing and construction to professional services, hospitality, agriculture, and retail. What matters isn’t your industry, it’s that you’re facing the people-side challenges of transition: unclear expectations, family dynamics, successor readiness, timing questions, and relationship preservation. The tools and frameworks we use apply universally because many transition challenges are fundamentally human, not industry-specific. And the structural, tax, and estate dimensions we help families explore are governed by national standards (with some state-level nuances) so our work translates across geography as well as industry.

Evolve is designed to be 100% virtual — no travel required, no multi-day retreats. We’ve found that monthly and bi-weekly virtual sessions create a more consistent pace than occasional in-person intensives, and they fit into your actual schedule without disrupting your business or personal life. That said, we love getting together in person. We offer optional in-person retreat days and family meetings for families who want them, at additional cost.

You can absolutely start Evolve on your own. Many successors come to us first because they see the need before the founder does. We’ll help you clarify your own objectives and, when the timing is right, help you craft the right conversation to invite the founder in. Some of the most successful engagements we’ve had started with a successor who simply said: I want to do this intentionally. The founder often follows once they see there’s a structured, respectful process (not a demand).
